An upright herb that can reach a height of up to 80 cm. The stem is much branched at the bottom. Expanding downwards with small close leaves. Each branch has 10-24 leaves.

The leaves are alternately arranged, oblong in shape but ciliate and the edge surface is hispidulous, the tip is rounded to obtuse. The abaxial leaves are grey-green or sometimes reddish while the adaxial ones are bright or dark green. The stalk is very short.

Inflorescences of the simose type, flowering along the branches, flowers for the female are single (one flower) and are at the base to the middle. Has 5-7 flowers and is at the end of the branch. It has subsessile, six sepals. There are six sepals, three stamens, elliptical to oblong sepals, yellowish white for male flowers.

All parts of the plant and two inches of jali are boiled with five cups of water. Boiled water is drunk two or three times a day (Selangor).

This plant together with a pinch of rice, and an inch of turmeric is pounded and applied to the swollen part (Selangor).
Treating yellow fever

A child's dedukang tree is boiled until it boils. Boiled water is added with cold water until it becomes warm and used as bath water once a day every morning until cured (Perlis).
